Thank you to all Scouts, leaders, parents, helpers and visitors who joined us for Western Vic JOTA/JOTI 2018 at Cooinda Burrong over the weekend of Friday 19th to Sunday 21st October. We hope you all had a great weekend.
With over 60 Scouts in camp and a number of day visitors, the 2018 camp saw 12 patrols participate in 8 activities over two days. The old favourites of Amateur Radio, JOTI, fox hunting and geocaching, to name a few, were complimeted by a new addition this year - a communications badge activity. This activity base was the place to get a couple of compontents of the communications badge signed off, ready to have another badge on your shirt!
Despite a cold night, we went ahead with an outdoor movie night - around a couple of nice warm fire pits! This relaxed night was started just after dark with Milo and popcorn - how else would you start a movie?!
At closing parade we were pleased to announce that next year, in 2019, the Saturday Night Market will be back by popular demand. You've now got twelve months to plan your market stall. What will your patrol bring?
The hotly contested Wimmera Cup was closer than ever - just one point between first and second - and third! Each patrol was scored at each of the activity bases and each group was scored on their Quality Scouting skills at their campsite. The winner of the Wimmera Cup for 2018 was 'The Barry's' from Hamilton - well done! Casterton's 'Hotdogs' patrol came in second followed by Portland's 'Barracudas' patrol.
2018 - while a busy year for the Western Vic JOTA team - was an enjoyable weekend for all. This year also saw probably the biggest geographic-spread of groups to attend our camp, with groups from as far afield as Lake Boga to Portland and Timboon making the trek to the Grampians. Once again we thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you all again in 2019.
In closing, we also thank two supporters of our camp: Telstra, who have long supported us with internet for the weekend, and Icom Australia, who this year loaned us a HF radio for the amateur radio activity. We acknowledge and thank both of these businesses for their generous support of our camp.
Yours in Scouting,
Western Vic JOTA/JOTI Team
